Nha Trang has a very large beach and ocean front area. There used to be a lot of beach front rooms to be had, but over the past number of years, many of the smaller French Colonial buildings have been torn down to make way for new super hotels. There are 2 beaches in Nha Trang that have beachfront hotels. One being the Bai Duong, and the other the Nha Trang beach. In the north part of the city, the oceanside street is called Pham Van Dong. The street name changes as it crosses the river to the downtown area to Tran Phu.
On this page, I have included a photo of all the hotels along these roads. Click on a picture and you can view them in closer detail.
Area1: I will start on Pham Van Dong street and move southwards. Area1 offers a truley unique experience. It is in a Vietnamese area with very limited English services. There are no agressive sales people and a very friendly environment. The best seafood restaurants are located in this area.
Area2 covers from the downtown area to the end of the backpacker area, It s the closest to downtown shopping and the commercial district. Some of the finest western and European restaraunts along with busy nightlife can be found in the backpack area.
Area3 starts beyond the Backpack area for about 1.5 kilometers. This area can be very congested and noisy but offers some lower cost accomodation. Most tourists in these hotels are Vietnamese from Saigon and Hanoi.

I am currently the only western run hotel in the north end of town and unfortunately cannot recommend another close by however, in the main tourist area, The Carpe Dm and the Ha Van hotel are Popular choices……. But who knows what will happen… maybe there will be a Tide Too……..
I see on the ‘tide’ website that it is closing in Feb 2013, can you without stepping on toes recommend another hotel? I have read so many positive reports about you guys.
i’m with the other posters above- everything about the Tide looks and sounds so great (yourselves included 😉 ). your location looks so much better- hope it can remain as it is for a good while.
I loved this post so much – your photos are really helpful- Nha Trang city does look really good and i’m beginning to see the attraction.
Been through that area before we met Owen, they do have a nice location to be sure.
Hey…looks like we’re gonna open the cafe’ next week finally !! It will be interesting to see what happens with the cops and all in the first few weeks. We kept the cost down to absolute minimums and will add things as we go along to make it run better. Had the sign re-done to meet local standards but I’m sure there will still be something ‘wrong’ that will have to be fixed.
So…there will be a real western food joint here in little Tuy Hoa…for how long we don’t know. We’ve prepared ourselves for any hassles by the local authorities and can still pack everything in a small truck if we have to move.
Puts alot of things in perspective doesn’t it? Most of those low end “beach front” hotels you have to walk a 1/2 mile to get to the beach…then it’s very crowded because of some of the resorts taking alot of the beach area. Nice to just walk across the street from The Tide and “you’re in the sand baby”. Plus no one hassling you to “buy from me”! Can’t wait to get back home.

Hi Owen
I am in the process of checking out the hotels and yours is high on the list.
May I ask, where is this map showing area 1, area 2 etc
Thanks
Hey Owen, some prices would have been good so one could compare.
The pictures inspired me soo much that I booked 3 nights at the Tide. See you soon I hope.

Hey .. Pix 30, Hotel Thanh Binh is where I stayed in 2008, owned by my wife’s relative. Nice to see it here. 🙂
So glad we are staying at your hotel! Beachfront access, best owners in the world! Can’t wait for the day to arrive.
